Hemp Museum

(Museo della Canapa
Sant’Anatolia di Narco)
October 12-13, 2024

Giornata del contemporaneo e Giornata delle Famiglie al museo (Fa.Mu)

On the weekend of October 12-13, 2024, the Hemp Museum in Sant’Anatolia di Narco will host a series of activities for families, adults, and children, designed to introduce them to the artistic heritage and traditions of the Valnerina.
“Dai filo all’Arte” (Give Thread to Art) is the title conceived by Sofia Ancillotti, curator of artist Filippo Biagioli, that encompasses the two days of events. The thread is symbolic of weaving, the weft, and the concept that numerous threads woven together can create something larger and more resilient, such as a dress, a hat, or, in the case of Filippo Biagioli’s work, a book.
The event begins on Saturday, October 12, when, in celebration of the 20th edition of the Giornata del Contemporaneo (Contemporary Art Day) promoted by AMACI, the Hemp Museum will exhibit the Leggendario della Valnerina by Filippo Biagioli, an artist originally from Serravalle Pistoiese. This book, made entirely of hemp fabric, will be displayed along with sketches created by the artist.
On the same day, starting at 3:30 p.m., the Hemp Museum’s Atelier di Sartoria will come to life with Mille trame per un’opera d’Arte (A Thousand Threads for a Work of Art), a workshop on embroidery and the role of hemp as a foundational element for weaving and creating art, guided by the expert hand of Filippo Biagioli.
On Sunday, October 13, as part of Fa.Mu – Family Day at the Museum, the museum will also offer the workshop Give a New Life to an Old Story, a free event focused on sustainability and creative reuse. Once again, artist Filippo Biagioli will lead participants in an afternoon dedicated to upcycling, the practice of transforming old clothes into unique pieces, reducing waste and contributing to a greener future. This is a unique opportunity to learn how to breathe new life into forgotten fabrics, thanks to the participation of Cittadinanzattiva, Spoleto office, which will contribute to the initiative by overseeing the tailoring repair and transformation workshop.
Educators from the Hemp Museum will guide participants in transforming clothes and accessories, starting with unused garments and reinterpreting them with creativity and environmental awareness. Each piece tells a new story, maintaining the original essence of the fabric while delivering a powerful message of sustainability.
This is an afternoon not to be missed for families and for those who wish to begin reducing their environmental impact with style and creativity.
Participation is free, with a maximum of 10 families. Reservations are required.
